The Old Ranch

The ceremony and reception will be held at the Davidson Ranch (Old Ranch) at Silver Falls State Park at 4:30 PM on Saturday June 1, 2024. The location appears on google maps as “Silver Falls Ranch”. Once you get to the Silver Falls State Park area you’ll follow signs for Campground/Lodging/Smith Creek Village. Then you’ll look for a sign that says “Ranches”. After that keep left at the fork for the old ranch.

Wine & appetizers will start at 4:30. At 5:45 there will be a short walk to a nearby ceremony site in the woods.  Afterwards we’ll head back to the barn for champagne and a group photo, followed by more snacks and music. Dinner will be served buffet style, around 7:30. At 8:45 we watch the sunset, weather permitting.

Things to Consider:

This will be a two+ day affair, but attendance is only mandatory for the main event on Saturday afternoon. Friday evening we’ll be eschewing a traditional rehearsal dinner in favor of an informal, collaborative flower arranging / decorating / setting up session with the food aspect yet to be determined. Those of you who can and want to come Friday are encouraged to settle in, help set-up, or go see some of the 10 waterfalls in the park.

Saturday afternoon-ish  we’ll have a fairly DIY wedding in the field outside the barn, or nearby in the woods - in celebration of love, commitment, family, and friendship. Please no firearms, rabid mongrels, confusing drama, or inappropriate weeping.  It’s about an hour and 15 minutes from Portland, so bring a toothbrush. And maybe a flashlight.

There are bathrooms, a kitchen, and a nice big open firepit in the barn, with plenty of single bunks upstairs in the barn available for free, and space for 10 tents in the field. There is also a campground nearby (book a spot ASAP if this is your preference).  We’ve reserved some lodging with real (but maybe lousy) beds and indoor plumbing nearby at Smith Creek Village. About 25 minutes away in Silverton you can book accommodations with all the mod cons. Regardless of your comfort requirements, you’ll want to plan well in advance. The nearest Waffle House is in Missouri. Hopefully you won’t have decent phone reception (Verizon is spotty. AT&T and T-Mobile don’t work). Wear appropriate shoes or no shoes at all. Coffee, wine, beer, food, and water should be available all weekend, god willing. Maybe even toilet paper.

Silver Falls State Park

The Old Ranch is near, but not in Smith Creek Village, which is just a ranger office, a coffee shop / overpriced restaurant, and a collection of cabins within Silver Falls State Park. It’s a winding 25 minute drive to Silverton and modern amenities. Silverton is a nice little town.

The surrounding park is popular but beautiful, with many waterfalls and hiking trails. Come early or stay late, and go for a day hike!
